What are squad rivalries?

When squads keep meeting in competition, VERGR remembers: rivalries track the head-to-head history between squads and surface it on the squad's page. Meet your rivals again and the record is right there, who leads the series, how many times you have clashed. Players have personal rivalries too, built from their tournament matches.

How rivalries form

Rivalries are earned, not declared: they build automatically from competitive history. Squads that keep running into each other in tournaments develop a tracked head-to-head, and the squad page shows its rivals, turning a random bracket matchup into a grudge match with a scoreboard.

The personal version

The same memory exists between individual players: every completed tournament match between two people adds to their head-to-head record, matches played, and who has won more. Meet your nemesis in round two and the history is part of the story.

Why it matters

  • Stakes without money: a rivalry gives a rematch weight even when the prize is small.
  • Community fuel: rival squads fill each other's spectator seats, rivalry matches are the ones fans buy tickets for.
  • Motivation: nothing organises a squad's practice schedule like being 2-3 down against the squad you cannot stand.
