Trading Card Games Dominate the PAX East 2026 Showfloor
My recent trip to PAX East 2026 followed the familiar, exhausting rhythm of previous years. Between the lack of sleep, poor dietary choices, and the massive amount of walking required to navigate the venue, the physical toll remained consistent. However, the nature of my time spent on the floor shifted dramatically. While I have historically focused on digital entertainment, this year I found myself largely ignoring the usual video game demonstrations in favor of trading card games. Engaging with both friends and new acquaintances through these tabletop experiences provided a welcome shift from my typical convention routine.
This is not to say that the selection of interactive software was lacking. Promising titles like Poly Fighter and Canvas City were present, and I personally enjoyed checking out Inkblood. Despite these interesting digital offerings, the magnetic pull of the traditional console and PC booths was significantly weaker this time around. Instead, my attention was captured by the growing variety of physical card games available at the event. Most notably, the debut of a project based on the Cyberpunk 2077 universe stood out as a highlight, signaling a broader trend where analog gaming is increasingly sharing the spotlight with high-budget video games during major industry gatherings.
