Development of Shibuya Scramble Follow-up Stalled by Funding Error
The creator of the cult classic 428: Shibuya Scramble, Jiro Ishii, is facing a major obstacle regarding his latest project. Last year, Ishii launched a crowdfunding campaign on the platform Ubgoe for a successor titled Shibuya Scramble Stories. The campaign was a massive success, raising 54 million yen from supporters, significantly exceeding its initial financial targets.
However, the project is now in jeopardy due to a bizarre administrative failure. According to reports, Skeleton Crew Studio expected the funds to be transferred by September 2025. Upon inquiry, the studio received only half of the total amount. Ubgoe CEO Kazuo Okada reportedly informed the developers that the remaining balance cannot be recovered, claiming the company accidentally sent the money to the incorrect recipient. In light of this situation, Ishii is currently seeking legal counsel to address the missing capital and the future of the game. The incident has left the status of the Shibuya Scramble follow-up uncertain as the production team navigates these unexpected complications.
