State of Decay 3 Developers Clarify 2020 Reveal Was Conceptual

When State of Decay 3 was first revealed four years ago, the announcement trailer captivated audiences with a startling scene featuring a zombified deer consuming a wolf carcass. This imagery led many fans to anticipate a survival experience where undead wildlife would pose a significant threat alongside the franchise’s signature human zombies. However, recent insights from the development team have clarified that these creatures will not be appearing in the final game.

Studio representatives explained that the initial trailer served strictly as a conceptual piece rather than a reflection of actual gameplay mechanics. At the time of the reveal, the project existed only as a written document, meaning the teaser was created well before the game had a tangible form. Consequently, the idea of zombie animals was never a functional part of the development roadmap. While the trailer successfully generated excitement for the upcoming title, players should not expect to encounter infected animals when the survival sequel eventually launches.
